Background and aims
Post the Canterbury earthquakes Christchurch City Council (CCC) prepared nine Suburban Master Plans to assist with the recovery of the city, as part of its Suburban Centres Programme.
CCC consulted with the public to ensure the Plans were in accordance with each community’s wishes and to inform each plan’s development. The plans were then refined to better meet the community’s needs.
Our role
Global Research analysed the public comment on the plans and reported to CCC on what the public had said. To do this GR synthesised and analysed all comments and prepared Reports which CCC used to refine their final Plans.
Design and method
Global Research provided advice to the Council on information collection design and then applied its systematic approach to comment analysis. It prepared reports based on the comments made by the public, organised by themes, topics and specific ideas. Quantitative analysis also presented the percentages of people who supported or did not support specific actions within the Plans.
Results and outcome
The Council was informed of the publics’ comments through analysis that provided a systematic synthesis of all comments and organised them into themes and topics based on the structure of each Plan. The information enabled CCC to confidently develop Plans which meet the needs and wishes of the public.
Christchurch City has nine Suburban Master Plans which will inform the development of essential city infrastructure.
