Patrick O’Neill

Managing Director | Research Director

Patrick Manages the Global Research team. Over the last 18 years he has completed a vast range of projects and gained broad experience, with large fast moving public engagement projects being the most prominent in recent times. Work research experience includes University, Central and Local Government and private business roles.

Recent projects Patrick has completed with the Global Research team have included Christchurch post-earthquake and international projects for organisations such as: City of Melbourne; City of Sydney; Copenhagen based Gehl Architects; Toronto’s 8-80 Cities; Melbourne Water.

In his spare time, Patrick enjoys the cultural and sporting pursuits of his two wonderful children and relaxing on the beach with his wife. He is convinced there is at least one more marathon in the old legs - we will see!


Jeanine Marriott-O’Neill

Director

Jeanine is our highly qualified and experienced company director. She draws from her undergraduate double major in psychology and sociology and post graduate qualifications in teaching, commerce, career and life counselling along with professional experience in Asia, Europe and Australasia.

Jeanine’s vast experience and holistic world view brings new insights and guidance to project planning and execution. She also has significant input into Global Research’s strategic direction, management and culture.

Jeanine’s spare time involves early-morning trail running and after-school activity running for her two talented children.

Megan Apse

Senior Research Analyst

Megan is an experienced researcher and social scientist who holds Master of Applied Science with first class honours and a Post-graduate Diploma with distinction (both in Social Science) from Lincoln University, and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Canterbury. She is a highly experienced qualitative analyst, with a hand in large scale public engagement analysis and reporting for local governments in Melbourne, Sydney, and Wellington, as well as for New Zealand Government public consultations.

Megan brings to Global Research experience from her previous roles as an academic researcher and content writer as well as a number of community roles from volunteering at local arts events to board governance for a charity. When spare moments present themselves, she can be found engrossed in literary fiction or film and supporting her interest in the sociology of sport by cheering her children on from the sidelines at rugby league.

Naomi McMahon

Senior Research Analyst

Naomi’s tertiary education (Bachelor of Arts (History and Classics), and Master of Teaching and Learning (Primary)) has prompted an interest in social attitudes and behaviour, which she brings to her role at Global Research.

Over the past 5 years, Naomi’s primary role at Global Research has been analysing qualitative data and turning written comments into insightful reports to allow clients to understand what respondents think and feel, as well as analysing quantitative data and creating infographic summaries. She has worked on a large number of projects for government and commercial organisations, including the Ministry of Education, Wellington City Council, Christchurch City Council, City of Melbourne, and City of Sydney.

Outside of work, Naomi enjoys a range of things including Karate, jewellery making, photography, social tennis, mountain biking, cooking, and spending weekends away with friends.


Sienna Kelly

Research Analyst

Sienna recently joined the Global Research team after completing a Post-graduate Diploma in Land and Society at Lincoln University. After working in conservation, she was inspired by the power of social science to contribute to systematic change.

At Global Research Sienna enjoys working on community engagement projects and communicating participants’ opinions while developing her qualitative analysis and report writing skills. The most prominent projects she has worked on are the Human Rights (Incitement on Ground of Religious Belief) Amendment Bill for the Ministry of Justice and the Draft Speed Management Plan for Wellington City Council.

Sienna’s hobbies include dancing, gardening, and rock climbing. On the weekends she enjoys relaxing with friends and playing board games.


Sophie Yeo

Research Analyst

Sophie has a First Class Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Cultural Anthropology and a Bachelor of Arts in Cultural Anthropology, Development Studies, and Asian Studies from Victoria University of Wellington. Her background in anthropology and ethnographic research sparked a passion for applied social research in policy and decision making.

Sophie takes interest in making sense of qualitative data and finding the best ways to communicate these findings through clear, insightful reports. In her time at Global Research, Sophie has worked on projects for central and local government in New Zealand and Australia.

Sophie is also passionate about the local Christchurch arts scene, and in her free time, she can often be found painting, reading, or spending time with her pet sheep.


Cathy McCarthy

Research Analyst

Cathy joined the Global Research team after completing a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of Writing with distinction at the University of Canterbury. During her studies, she developed a passion for writing and social justice, which she loves delving into during her work at Global Research.

Cathy’s extensive knowledge of the writing process allows her to condense large amounts of qualitative data into well-structed, interesting, and useful reports that enable people’s voices to be heard. She enjoys learning about people’s different experiences and perspective while analysing qualitative data. During her time at Global Research, Cathy has worked on a large national public engagement project as well as smaller projects for New Zealand and Australia.

In her spare time, Cathy enjoys reading, running, swimming, walking, catching up with friends, and watching the rugby with her family. She also loves spending time with her pets.


Julia Stowell

Research Analyst

Julia recently graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Psychology from the University of Canterbury, where learning about community participation from a theoretical perspective sparked a desire to discover how these processes are applied, and how people engage with them in various contexts.

Julia has collaborated on multiple public engagement projects at Global Research, primarily working with written comments, categorizing these to create a thematic framework and clearly conveying the essence of this feedback within a report format, as well as analysing quantitative data.

In her free time, Julia enjoys crocheting, reading, listening to music and rock climbing.


Alex Payne

Research Analyst

Alex’s Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Religious Studies from Victoria University catalysed their keen interest in human diversity and social processes. They retain a fascination with the role of faith and other identities in meaning-making and love to examine complex qualitative data for associations or tonal consistencies. Alex joined the Global Research team after working at several bookstores in Wellington and Christchurch. Since their employment, they have contributed to a few local government projects (New Zealand and overseas) and one nationwide public consultation.

Alex is a passionate and adept writer and enjoys distilling swathes of sentiment to concise vistas of public opinion. Global Research’s meticulous process of qualitative analysis appeals to Alex’s inner pedant and enables them to summarise findings with absolute confidence. Alex spends their free time reading, writing, sewing, and scrolling Wikipedia.
