Background and aims
The Victorian Planning Authority (VPA) and City of Melbourne’s (CoM) vision for Moonee Ponds Creek is for it to become “a thriving corridor that supports the liveability and resilience of the city”. To achieve this aim, CoM sought community feedback on the draft Moonee Ponds Creek Strategic Opportunities Plan, which highlights strategic opportunities and management issues along the creek. The creek is envisaged as an exemplar corridor for water management, public space and community activity, active transport, biodiversity, heritage and culture.
Our role
Global Research was contracted to synthesise and analyse feedback from the public and to present a comprehensive report detailing public opinion on the plan, and on the issues associated with planning for the future of Moonee Ponds Creek.
Design and method
Both quantitative and qualitative analysis was undertaken to present the most popular goals and opportunities identified by participants during consultation. Every comment recorded as part of the consultation activities was read by analysts and grouped into common themes and topics prior to being synthesised in the discussion section within the body of the report. Care was taken to accurately reflect the weight of opinion, and to give adequate exposure to interest groups who submitted.
Result
Global Research delivered a document presenting analysis of the combined community engagement feedback received through the public consultation period. It provided City of Melbourne, partner agencies, and interested stakeholders with a comprehensive assessment of the statistical trends, along with a grouped interpretation of narrative contributions. Findings were presented in both full and summary reports. Excerpts from the report were also published on an easy to navigate information page on the City of Melbourne website here.
Outcome
The feedback received will help shape a final document provided to the Victorian Planning Authority (VPA) to advocate for better outcomes for the future of Moonee Ponds Creek.
