Background and aims
The City of Melbourne (CoM) undertook a public engagement to better understand what matters to Melburnians when it comes to ageing. This research was created to inform the development of CoM’s, Melbourne: A Great Place to Age strategic plan, which aims to create “a more connected community that brings people together in their local neighbourhoods, and ensures older people are supported to fully participate and feel valued and respected for their unique life experience.”
Our role
Global Research was commissioned to analyse data collected during a public engagement process, and create a document to help inform CoM on how to approach their, Melbourne: A Great Place to Age strategic plan.
Design and method
Data was collected from 446 respondents through surveys, workshops, social media posts and written submissions, and then provided to Global Research by CoM for analysis. Quantitative data was presented in clear, easy to interpret charts, while qualitative comments were carefully read and sorted into relevant themes and topics by Global Research analysts. The findings of this engagement were then presented in a comprehensive report in both full and summary form.
Result
The report produced by Global Research provided CoM with a clear synthesis of the comments made by Melburnians on the subject of ageing, and demonstrated what respondents felt was important. The report also included ideas from respondents on how CoM could improve the ageing experience for the people of Melbourne, and contained verbatim comments on a range of different topics.
Outcome
The report provided by Global Research will be used to inform CoM’s Melbourne: A Great Place to Age strategic plan, and any changes that may be implemented in the city of Melbourne to aid its people through life transitions and into old age.
